IIT-JEE Advanced 2016 to be conducted on May 22, no changes in boards marks weightage

Putting an end to the confusion of students amid the speculation of major changes, IIT to continue with their existing pattern of the two-tier selection process. IIT JEE Advanced is going to be held on May 22, 2016.  However, this time the 2 lakh students will be able to sit for the exam as against 1.5 lakh for the upcoming year. IIT Guwahati will be conducting the JEE Advanced 2016.

The Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry has decided to continue with the existing pattern of boards marks as well. Like every year, 40 per cent weight will be given to board marks and 60 per cent to the JEE-Main score. The eligibility criteria will also remain same for the students, although, those students who have already accepted any of the seats in any of the IITs or ISM in 2015 will not be allowed for the JEE Advanced in 2016.
IIT Council had been mulling major changes in the examination pattern such as single entrance test and weight age of boards marks, however, Committee of Eminent Persons (CEP) constituted by the IIT Council decided not to make any changes for 2016. The changes, if accepted, will be applicable from 2017.
The changes being mulled in the selection of students is multiple online tests to select top 4 lakh students who would be eligible to appear for JEE. The panel has recommended National Testing Service which is likely to be set up in 2016. The idea is to test the students'  scientific ability and discourage the culture of coaching. The IIT aspirants need to give two-tier entrance tests namely, JEE Mains followed by JEE Advanced to get admission in IITs. Pitching the National Institute of Technology (NIT) admission procedure, IIT had asked for single entrance test for admissions. For NIT, clearing only JEE Mains is required for admissions.

TIPS FROM TOPPER-WHAT THEY DID TO GET AIR 1

AIPMT toppers

Tejaswin Jha – Topper of AIPMT 2014 – believes in Sound Body for a Sound Mind

Tejaswin – the boy who got AIR 1 in AIPMT last year – is not a bookworm. He says, “Sports and recreational activities are absolutely necessary along with your medical exam preparation. Apart from school and coaching, I used to devote 3 to 4 hours for self-study and then played cricket or indulged myself in other physical activities. Exercises kept me fit and fresh.”
Tejaswin strategy was to practice his weak subject more and pay more attention to NCERT books rather than the heavier scary-looking books. He also advises not to be stressed about the exam as the stress can only pull you down.

Navsheen Singhal – Topper of AIIMS 2015 – advises Self Study is better than Coaching

Navsheen, who got AIR 1 in AIIMS this year – says, “I used to study on my own for at least 7 to 8 hours. I did not rely on ready made notes. I made notes for all the topics myself and revised them again and again.”
Navsheen agreed that 50% of the questions asked in the entrance exam were from NCERT. He also revealed that whenever he felt too burdened with studies, he used to play table tennis to make himself feel better and get some exercise

If you are preparing for AIPMT and AIIMS exams, here are the two tips to follow:
  • Emphasize more on NCERT books, and
  • Catch some exercise. All books and no play will only make you dull.

TIPS TO AVOID NEGATIVES IN JEE MAIN 2016

Decoding the JEE Marking scheme:

In JEE Main 2016, students have to solve 90 questions in 3 hours. In JEE Advanced 2016, the total number of questions to be solved can be 60 or more. In short, for each wrong answer, you earn a penalty score equal to the 0.25 of the marks assigned to the question.

If a question is of 4 marks and you circle an incorrect answer, you will earn a penalty score of 1 mark.
So, answer carefully. If you circle two or more options, no marks will be awarded to the question.

Prepare, Don’t Act Smart:

Students only lose marks when they don’t actually know the answers and resort to guess work. So, study well. Revise your formulas and theorems and practice your shortcuts., you can find chapter-wise revision notes, daily practice papers and for JEE aspirants which can help with your exam preparation.

Time Management:

It has often been seen that at the end of exam, many students end up making silly mistakes due to time crunch. So, manage your time well.

Elimination Strategy:

Don’t choose an option because you ‘feel’ that it is the right one. You should ‘know’ it for sure. It is only possible if you know your concepts and do your practice. In cases where you are not sure, try eliminating the options which you know are definitely wrong. That will increase your chances of choosing the right answer.

Don’t Panic:

Panic will only lead you to blunders. Relax yourself, have patience and concentrate on the task at hand.
